Warning when you carry HW back from overseas, even singapore

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys and Gals, would like to share with you some unhappy incidents regarding out great Malaysian Customs.

For the 1st time in the world, a product made in it's on country when brought back overseas is TAXED. It like @#$%^&. Why do I have to pay for additional 30% tax when I'm already paying more for the same item in Singapore?

Let's do the sums here,

HW in Malaysia : RM6.90
HW in Singapore : SGD3.5 x 2.4 = RM8.40
Percentage on increase : (8.4-6.9)/6.9 = 21%
Now our friends wanna charge me 30% tax : RM8.40 x 30% = RM2.52
Grand Total for 1 HW after taxes = RM10.92
New Percentage Increase : 58%

Wow.....

Let this be a warning to all who plan to hand carry tons of HW back into Malaysia. Our Customs are very efficient in using their x-ray to tax everything they like.

Hmm...
I used a luggage to stuff 170+ of carded cars, some even with the price tags still intact...
The customs officers didn't do anything at Changi, I didn't even had to do scanning while at Penang Airport...

Hmm... QuestionQuestion
Maybe I was lucky~

I think if you take a bus back from Singapore, there is a high chance of being taxed. Somehow, flying is not so risky.

I second that. They're not so anal in the airport, but I have heard of crazy stories in the JB-SG customs.

bro enyo, izzi alot of cars you try to bring in that's why kena tax?

Or is there any safety zone of less than how many cars then wouldn't kena tax?

hmmm.. I'm not to sure about the taxes la..
However, my last trip to SG, I have around 30 cars (HW&MB) and several HW tracks (Not for me, bought for a fren) but at the Malaysian Custom, they did check but didn't tax me... maybe just my luck..

Maybe there is a grace number of units which can be brought in, or try to pack in separately into different bags..

back in year 2005, i went through the KLIA custom regulations. it stated that only souvenir for personal usage is allowed. else, if souvenir costs more than rm200 regardless for personal or others, it will be taxed accordingly.

I hope now that it's 5 years on, the amount should increase so much more coz at only rm200 is simply TOO TIGHT the budget. U can only get 14 pcs of Since '68 with only rm200
Why would I go to S'pore & buy ONLY 14 pcs Since '68 ???

u take bus / train , u kena scan, u kena bayar ....

u take plane, if they buat bodoh, u escape ...

enyo, for my curiosity.
1) those without price tag, how were they charging you?
or, for HW basic (for example), direct charge 30% x S$3.50 x total quantity?

2) by the way, did they provide you any "tips" or "advice"? such as, you can buy from Singapore and bring back to Malaysia as long as, for example:
- certain limited quantity, say, 20units MAX.
- 1 model only 1 unit MAX, cannot but more than 1 unit for the same model.
etc.
