Booze and lifestyle change

Recommended Posts

As some of you know went Docs before Xmas and was told I had damaged my liver with booze , been back today and been told NOT to drink again , A safe level of something in my liver should be 50 , and when I went for tests before Xmas it was 100 , this time it is 170 affraid , so got to go for another blood test in a couple of weeks (that will have given me a good month off the ale )Then docs again a week later for the results , If its not come down will have to go hospital for more tests Sad

I have drank heavy since i was 16 and its been a big part of my life , So it looks like a big life style change for me , So hopefully will be out on the bike alot more and beat my 5,000 miles last year thumbs

That there is the same reason i dont drink ( bottle every now and again ) or smoke. Too easy to get hooked, and way too easy to damage yourself without realising. Hope everything goes well with the docs thumbs Think of the positive side of it! more money to spend on the bike Laughing

Welcome to my world.

Five and a half years since I had a drink.

Was hard work to start with, but not so much now.

I loved my drink.
Shifted plenty of it in the last 30+ years,
Had some great times. Still fancy one sometimes.
I know for me if could never be "one".
I struggle with moderation, for me counting the
days since the last one helps and makes me more
determined not to set the click back to zero and
start again. If I had real will power I'd be able to
enjoy one or two and stop.

I think of if as a few old chapters in my life,
Now I've turned the page and started another.

Never been anti-drink, if just didn't suit me.

thats always been my problem one is no good to me , would sooner stop in and have one big blow out once in a while , it is easyier not to drink than to drink in moderation , but i now have no choice

I drink heavy as well(4 bots of spirits a week)
I've always liked a drink.
Just started going to CADS.
If i get down to 60 units a week, in 4 weeks time i can go on detox.

Ive got to say Dave im proud of ya, and im not taking the piss neither, when my parents split me dad had a good payout from me mother and he never had to work again at a very young age he was a pro footy player but never got paid alot as they didnt in the 60/70's...anyway me old man sold everything he owned which included 3 houses in the 90's and pissed the best part of a million on party's pissups and travelling whilst getting pissed as a subsequent my youngest brother and sister sufferd most and i could do nothing but watch...the old man is 60 something and has sufferd numerous heart attacks and liver trouble...hes a prick and selfish c censored t these words may seem harsh but trust me he his...I myself love a beer from time to time but never want to be told i cant enjoy another hence why i dont drink that often..So Dave please please and im sure you will with the support of your lovelly wife Mel you will do it and get yourself better, im also chuffed to see ya getting out on push bike more these days and like i said before get yourself down the gym and pump some iron thats my drug thumbs keep it up mate i salute ya

Sorry to rant on mate but drugs and drinks are the root to all evil in my eyes if not used moderately

I echo a lot of what Stue has said there, as well as most of what has been put on here. As everyone knows I don't drink. I have previously but never heavily and not for some time now, just don't like the taste. I go out occasionally with a few lads, all of whom like a good drink. One or two only drink halves, keeps their intake down, their way of handling it. If it works for them, absolutely fine. But not drinking doesn't mean I don't enjoy the night out. I've met a lot of people from the forum and always enjoyed the times out. All I'm saying Dave is that drink doesn't make a night out mate, it's the people who are around you. Good people, great night thumbsthumbsthumbs I'll get two pints of orange next time then thumbsLaughingthumbs

Good luck with the tests mate thumbsthumbs

Bad news Dave, on the bright side the liver is an organ that can repair itself.
A few years ago I had problems with my liver some strange results from blood tests and had to have a liver biopsy, worried the wife I can tell you. the upshot off it was that with a bit of weight loss and a small change in lifestyle my liver recovered and Im ok
as you know I still drink but in moderation but you need to do whats best for you
be positive about it
and good luck

good luck Dave I hope everything works out for you, Its definitely got me thinking as well because I like a drink and usually have way too much on friday, saturday and sunday night.I'm thinking about cutting it out or down drastically so at least I can still have a drink if I want before I'm told I have to give it up alltogether
