  1. some of those side impacts really throw you about.
  2. i upgraded to windows 10. Worked ok for a couple of days. Then rearranged or threw away a lot of my folders. I can find some stuff but not others . bugger
  3. I recently bought a 1.4 diesel fiesta zetec. I was desperate and rushed through the sale for work purposes. When I started the car at the dealers it sounded fine. On driving away there is a whine that is undulating with the revs. But at idle it is not there (the whine). My mechanic had a quick look and found that it had been in a collision (front) but a good repair job. Dealer had said it had a new clutch, water pump and timing belt. I wonder if any one had any ideas about the whine. It also has 16 inch alloy rims. I want to get a spare tyre as I do not like the inflation kit system. Must the spare wheel be a like for like or can I have a normal r14 steel wheel and rim bearing in mind I may only use it for a couple of days whilst a puncture is repaired?
  4. I got a 1.4 fiesta zetec diesel. Won't be getting anywhere fast. In the summer I will revert to the bike just to keep the mileage down. Funny, when I was driving home from dealers, I thought to my self 'that's the end of 90m.p.h. (safe ones) rides'. Just then I spotted a parked police car. The well hidden type.
  5. I eventually got the car today. SORN the bike for the moment. After my birthday, my insurance costs dropped from around £2300 to about £1600. I dithered abit as I wanted every last day of my bike insurance used up (23rd dec). Purchased the car today and ofcourse the premiums had gone up by £200 pound. Well, all being ok the only way is down... oh and they have to fit that little spy box to keep tabs on me. Anyway, jumped on train to go pick the car up and infront and to the left of me were 2 little boys about 10 years old, watching porn on a smart phone. So engrossed were they that I stood behind them trying to video them then chide them but I could not get my phone to work. They were not even trying to hide it... i mean you and I would atleast go to the toilet but not these little so and sos. Any way, taxed the car but was informed the tax started yesterday. I thought the new tax rules start on the day of purchase. Thieving buggers. But I'm sure it's all gonna get better now, with it being new year and all. Happy New Year to one and all
  6. tucked up in bed with cans of lager and watching all the older star wars films
  7. apparently, despite the grim reality, this is the beginning of a trend

  9. Don't you think they render ride away insurance redundant when you buy a used car? If you are expected to purchase road tax pretty much at the point of purchase and cannot obtain it with temporary insurance what is the point of ride away insurance which really is temp insurance. Normally you would drive off and spend a couple of days getting the best price (buyers market) but if you have to have it before hand ( sellers market) really turns the tables.
  10. It is deathly quiet this morning has Abigail gone? I had a weekend of debauchery planned in scotland this weekend. Lacking some waterproofs, I foolishly donned on a good quality waterproof poncho over my bike clothes while going to work a couple of days ago. I nearly went air borne as it acted as a sail. My head was being tugged one way, bike going another, I promptly took it off half a mile later.
  11. I have worked out a tenner takes me to work and home for 2 days as there is no point in carrying extra fuel weight. So to even things up I sometimes just put £4 or £5 . And does feel weird.
  12. he, he, he, try harder Dave. I have already accidentally posted a helmet cam video of me punching it in at an cash point. Promptly changed it. But to be fair, you were close. It is also 4 digits long.
  13. was fueling up this morning and when I got to the till, the cost turned out to be my debit card pin number
  14. was thinking along the same lines
  15. So when is it better to buy a car or rather haggle for a deal.... A week before christmas when some folk need spending money or in January when traders cannot shift anything???
  16. when even in a dream, you can only manage bobbing your head on a dance floor.
  17. a bit of digging and I may have been wrong on this one, Its business insurance to private that cannot be transferred. If anyone else knows any better please let me know
  18. i didn;t think no claims on a bike can be transferred to a car. my car licence is 10 years old. I did consider biting the bullet and paying for a couple of years till the costs come down but everytime I look, there is no assurance it will come down as is with the soon to be black boxes. Currently they are only be out for young drivers. But knowing lobby groups, in future if you don't have one you will have the premiums of a drunk driver.
  19. I tried buying a small car the other day. The insurance qoute came to £2300. I live in a crappy area granted, but the quote was £3000 ten years ago. This was regardless how cheap a car I was buying or whether it was 3rd party or not. If one option is to move, which is an expensive thing in itself, I will lose any savings to higher rents. Insurance companies conveniently disregard that with the higher mortality rates of being on a bike, comes the need to be better on the road, more observant, anticipatory and defensive. All good things you would think. If you use a motorway you, you do alot of miles and thus a higher risk. If you do short journeys, you are probably doing town driving and some one is likely to drive out of a side street into you ergo, highers risk. All roads lead to " drop your pants, bend over and think happy thoughts". We are also told that insurance companies haven't made money in a decade due to higher claims. Can i get lower premiums if I put a warning sticker on my dash warning ye of weak necks not to enter my car if you value your neck as my insurance will not pay out for whiplash....in small print and language only a laureate could understand. And mechanics who give quote (to the insurance) £4500 to replace the ignition on a car that has been broken into, and ohhhh, the car was only worth£1000. And don't forget, they can now use second hand parts to fix your car. Afew years ago, some blokes tried lowering mens' premiums by arguing in court gender discrimination as women paid lower premiums. Result... Womens' premiums went up. That was a decision purely based on risk one poses I suppose and not shareholder stake. Well, I will just dig out my winter riding apparel and hope everyone else on the road had a nice day.
  20. I have been window shopping for a bike bigger bike now for a year (suzy dl 1000). I went to view one in derby a few months ago as it was the cheapest price. Looking around the place the owner struck me as a complete ar*e hole. Didn't have much to go on bedside manner so to speak. As I had not committed my self anyway , I walked away. I remember telling myself on the way home ,' I'd rather pay abit more for a better experience and hopefully after sales service'. I've had another look at bikes again and the bugger is still the cheapest by about a grand. Seems like the ar*e hole will end up with my cash eventually.
