Blackbird Damper Rod Bolt
gravelrash posted a topic in Advice on Repairing and maintaining your bike
Hi everyone, brothers got a 1999 Honda cbr1100xx superblackbird the first of the injection model can't get the damper bolt out of the slider, it just turns and wont tighten or come out. I know its the damper piston turning but cant stop it. tried puting the cap back on and pushing the tube down to try and hold the damper but the bolt just turns, I cant put anything down the tube (broom shank) because the damper rod runs through the middle tried a battery impact driver still no good!(this was the last resort) stumped! Any suggestions we are starting to worry!! hoping the bolt isn't threaded -

Hi everyone, not sure if this is the right section for this but just been bought a Mac Allister 1/2" drive impact driver as an early b/day pressy from my better half. Got to say its bloody fantastic! its only 14.4v 140Nm but soooo powerful. Been going over the bike undoing siezed up bolts although common sense is needed on tightening (feel safer to use a spanner or rachet) My brother has just brought his Blackbird round to do f/seals shud make doing the damper bolt a dream anyway just thought i'd share my delight. (maybe should be under maintenance )

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Looks like another motorcycle dealership has gone into receivership . Established in 1919 Whte Bros Darlington were one of the oldest motorcycle dealerships in the country, I have bought many bikes from them and for me it is a sad loss, although now a Honda dealer Dave Burrell on their parts department has always sourced parts for my bandit at a good price. All stock is been sold on an online auction, there is veiwing on 18th jan in store from 9-4, maybe some good bargans to be had! http://www.sandersonweatherall.com/html/left-links/machinery/details/?ContentID=369&PHPSESSID

Must admit i'm struggling with earplugs, get the same disconnected feeling as stan (maybe try a few different brands and see how it goes) i'm gonna try putting a piece of polystyrene wraped in felt in the massive void where your ears sit and see if that helps, like alreadys been said maybe my head shape is just wrong for this helmet!

Thanks for your replies everyone, I'm 42 been riding since i was 16 so maybe damage is already done but will take on board what you have said and try some out . stue11, same here mate I have always used Shoei, just seem to fit my head shape. Don't know why this one is any different, once this snow's gone i'll give it a try... with ear plugs! Mike.

I have recently bought a Shoei Qwest touring helmet, i tried it on and it fit nice and snug, very comfortable. When i went for a ride the wind noise was painfull (40mph), i took my old helmet on the same stretch of road and it was much quieter, so i took it back to the supplier who sent it back to the distributor (for servicing ) anyway its come back new cheekpads and the visor mechanism re-torqued. The supplier has said because there is no manufacturing fault if there is still a problem there is nothing he can do! Because of the severe weather I have not been able to test it, I really like the helmet so hope it is sorted but if not does anyone no of my options? Earplugs are a possibility but i've never worn them so far it was a bloody expensive helmet and was sold as 60% quieter which for me it isn't. Any advice appreciated people
