Dissapointing bikes you have bought
Tony nitrous replied to XS1100's topic in The Pub "Tinker and Budget"
I wanted to build a flat-track / XLCR replica Harley, I managed to get one of the very last 4 speed, chain drive Sportsters, before they all went 5 speed chain drive (still an "Evo" model that had been out a few years) The chrome heat sheilds fell off the exhaust, A hard rev 1st gear launch was 100% garanteed to blow the headlight bulb. The front sprocket fell off and removed all the thread where the locknut should have gone. A "spirited" ride from Kidderminster to Newquay and back resulted in knocking big ends. Various odd's and ends, nuts and bolts, accesseries would fall off at random (probabley through vibration) the list go's on and on and on.... Im not a man to give up on anything easily. I stuck at it for 18 months, then gave up. -

XS250 custom... just awful ! Didnt want to start, gutless motor. Harley Sportster... wanted to like it, but just kept breaking things. GSX750ESD... couldnt get on with the 16" front wheel. CJ250... had a very short life...BANG! CB750 SOHC F1 ... starved its own top end of oil and snapped a camshaft when it seized. -

9 days into spring here. Warm enough to work in the shed, doors open, in a T-shirt and shorts, but still too soon to have to worry about mozzie's. Had some home made lock-stops on the Busa to stop the bottom yolk pinching my loom and brake line's. Removed them, and re-routed everything. Now I have full lock again. Weather. Warm, dry, not seen rain in about the last 5 weeks. Nice time of year, but I know its not going to last. End of years hot, humid and Storm season. Enjoying it while it lasts.....

"I don't think we're in Kidderminster anymore, Toto."

There's a few suburbs that he REALLY should avoid, (like any big City) Woodridge, Inala, Logan Central etc. Most folk rent when they 1st get here, I did, Been here 8 years, If I can be any help shout out. Also life in Bris depends where his work is. Big place, over 2,000,000 people over a big area. North and South sides of the river are connected by the rush hour traffic and bridge/tunnel toll's mean folk dont cross back and forth for fun. Tell him "Bayside" is full of Pommies, they like living near the Ocean. (and has a good Balti resteraunt) -

Where is he moving too ? They always told me it takes between 2 and 3 years to really fit in, untill you stop trying to convert $ into pounds, stop converting K's into miles, stop noticing the temp/humidity. I laughed but they weren't far wrong. I was lucky, when I moved out it only cost 38p to buy $1, now it takes over 60p to buy one. Still a great place but not as cheap as a few years back. -

I used to work for an Earthworks / Civil Engineering company when I turned up here. Owned by a Welshman. Old Scottish Guy as a labourer, 2 English labourers, 1 HUGE Maori / Kiwi labourer, all our concreters were Italian, we had a South African Engineer. We joked we got things done because we hadnt got any Australians. I took a day off once to go get my Australian Citizenship. The Boss said "when you turn up tomorrow you'll be an Aussie" I said "I that case i'll phone in sick and go fishing" -

CARB' QUESTION??
Tony nitrous replied to goferit's topic in Advice on Repairing and maintaining your bike
MOST carb'd bikes will benifit from getting the carbs looked at after fitting open pipes, not all, one exception is the early B12 that normaly runs better with an unrestricted can. Modern injected bikes (with smart ECU's) arent as bad. I swap between stock can's, Yoshi open's, Yoshi's with baffles and Staintune can's on my Busa/King. All run well and are safe enough for the motor. Modern ECU's will adjust and compensate. We ran 2 identical B-Kings, back to back on the Dyno, One 100% stock, One with open Yoshi can's. They had identiacal air-fuel ration's and the stock bike made 1hp MORE ! Can's did nothing as the EXUP valve and Cat in the front section were identical. Carb'd bikes arent so smart. The very least i'd do would be have a good ride, get it up to temp, find a good fast section, then pull over and check the plugs. A dyno run with a sniffer would be much better though. -

Love my Mk1 Bandits. Had one of the 1st in the UK, GSXR spec motor, coil spring clutch, open pipe, Renthals, 60hp wet NOS kit, etc etc. Made more pony's than my current Busa or King do ! Had to get another one, bought a faired 1999 model and converted it. Cheap nasty bouncy budget fun. Cant ride it without a stupid grin on my face. Yoshi pipe and Renthals every time...
