  1. Not in the least mad mate. It looks like you're finally waking up the fact that riding bikes might just be more fun than perpetual farkling as the Americans call it. I don't have time to ride regularly and clean & polish to my heart's content, so I'm happy to have a few edges knocked off but get some mileage in. Try it, you'll like it!
  2. Not me mate. But I'm in Lestoh tomorrow on a job.
  3. I've spoken about this before, but check out the vid. Ron Haslam putting it about with the works bikes on a stock VFR750 from Granby Motors. Classic
  4. Just copied this from another forum: First time in ages I've posted but I feel I have to join in this grand Maxxis debate! Got a VFR800Fi-X with 38k on of which I've done 15k on. Put the Diamonds on around 1,000 miles ago as I read 6-7 reports and all seemed good. I'd done 9k on Dunlop Roadsmarts (great tyres), and it was the £50 saving that swayed me. Got to say that early impressions are really good, with excellent dry and wet grip;though the most impressive thing up to now is the feedback, they really transmit what's happening. The other thing is-wait for it- they seem QUIETER, especially over the shellgrip surfaces around roundabouts and other hazards, maybe it's because they feel lighter in steering and changing direction but that's my feeling. Before they went on they did look a bit 'pointy' but once inflated looked fine and certainly don't drop into corners. I run my forks dropped 10mm and 35 front 38 rear psi. Bike feels great all round. Just got to see how they wear, if they approach the Dunlops they will be winners. Look in other markets like cycle, atv etc and Maxxis are dominant, I've got no worries whatsoever .
  5. Nice one Rose. I stopped for an old Brit knacker on Sunday, but he rang to say he'd got it going while I was still viewing a bike. And particularly nice that the guy personally came & settled his debt. Honour among thieves eh?
  6. Nice one mate-I love to browse a manual. The Sprint 1050 one is password protected though. Got a ZZR1400 manual to pore over so not a complete waste of time. Mille grazie!
  7. Look on the bright side, Alan, it may have been a right dog! 'Twas a naughty thing to do, though That's the pisser Max-bog standard apart from stainless downpipes, some s/history, brand new pair of Road Attacks. Right well, pick yourself up & all that. Been up to CMC at Clay Cross today & sorted out a test ride on a 2005 Sprint ST 1050 for later in the week. Had a look at them on the net, even bought a Haynes manual for them (I like to know what I'd be letting myself in for spannerwise) and me likey. Ticks more boxes than a VFR TBH, and a triple ain't a bad second choice against a V four. And there's plenty around as well.
  8. I'd have enjoyed this one, but not really got time. I am thinking of going up to CMC at Clay Cross to look at a Triumph Sprint ST. Sick of chasing after VFRs, too many ppl on the case & they stopped making them in 2002. Time to look elsewhere.
  9. Actually Dave, on a more serious note, get youselves set up with passports & we can do some proper riding. The Ardennes Forest is less than 400 miles away for starters..........
  10. Jeez Dave I got mine for nowt!! look forward to seeing her out & about.
  11. As my mates at work used to say to me-"last time I lend you a scewdriver!"
  12. Ok well as stated, I've now done getting towards 2,000 miles on these Maxxis Sport Touring tyres. Soooo........ Bike is 8 yr old ZZR1200. I ride spiritedly but I'm not a nail it through the gears rider, and I don't look to get my knee down on the local island. I like to think of it as grown up riding. Previous tyres have been Bridgestone 020 (good), Continental Road Attack (better, much quicker turn in and longer life) and Conti Sport Attack (v. nice but went off rather quickly). I guess I average 7k (best Road Attack 8,250) from a rear, 10k front. I use the bike to travel to jobs so am often carrying a pretty heavy tool case on the rear seat and two panniers full of spares, prob weigh 12-15kg each. Having ridden on these Maxxis for a few weeks, I'd say they match any of the above for grip, in fact I feel more confident in my tyres now than I ever have. Turn in is good, not so rapid as Contis, but responsive and predictable. The bike steers better than it ever has, and with a thing this length, that counts! The strange thing is, I feel like I'm leaning more than I've tended to in the past, and my corner speed has increased on roads which I know well, yet I still have getting on for 10mm of chicken strip either side. I've found the edge on all my previous tyres. Motorway comfort and bump absorption, no problem. Can't tell you about wet performance as it's been a pretty dry Spring. Odd rainy runs from work indicate, again, at least as good as the above named tyres. After 2k miles the tyres are still in shape, I'd guess I'll see at least 6k from the rear if not more, which again puts them pretty much on par with the others. In conclusion, I'd say they stack up well against the Bridgestones and Contis I've had before. If they all cost the same I'd go for the Maxxis, so bearing in mind these owe me less than £150 fitted, I'm proper chuffed. Never had Michelin PRs which most seem to rave about so can't comment further. As to wear/mileage, I'm better off than most in this regard as I do a lot of easy motorway miles. I can't promise you'll get 8k from a rear or WHY, but what I can say is that I'd expect at least similar rates of wear to what you'd get from your "normal" tyres. At a potential saving of at least £60-70 to the big boys, I can only say recommended
  13. And here we are in 1981 does anyone else think I look like Peter Sutcliffe?
  14. Well, I'd arranged to go with the cash tomorrow, not even haggled about the price. Fella's just rung me to say he's sold it. Never even mentioned another buyer. I'm a bit pissed with myself and him. Couldn't have been fairer, told him I'd wait till he got back from working away, then he drops that one on me. I think I'm gonna keep saving & get myself a nice 09 ZZR1400 in Candy Lime. Should be able to afford it by 2020 at the latest.
  15. I think you'll find that guy lives in Swindon. He's just going over his motoring convictions before going out for another spin.
  16. Best take a look at that-I use wingnuts on my plate I'm due for test next month.
  17. What?? Nothampton is a pile of rubble and closed down? Not before time
  18. As someone who was recovered from the south of France by Carole Nash, I can't say they're all bad. Most insurance companies charge admin fees as a matter of course these days. But, chacun a son gout
  19. Or for those of you who measure marriages like prison sentences 30 years. Three decades of wedded bliss and I don't regret a single day. Actually I regret every day. Just kidding. So big up to Rosita for tolerating me for so long. Here's to the next 30.
  20. Haha another Notts nutter! We'll soon outnumber those Lestoh types and another zzrista to boot. welcome
  21. OK well not settled but I've spoken to a chap & more or less agreed to buy his bike next weekend. If it's on the level & lives up to the pics, it's mine. Red W plate VFR800 just like the one I wrote off in 2003 fingers crossed it all goes ahead. Just had to tell someone. So my Bandit will deffo be for sale now.
  22. EBC organic will make your discs last longer. Perfectly good for any use outside a track.
