fr499y replied to smilinjack's topic in Advice on Repairing and maintaining your bike
I won't use anything other than the Storm II Ultra's now. had them on the zed and the xjr, and will slap a set on the MT once i wear the stock tyres out. on the zed:- BT021 - 2,800 - 3,000 miles Avon VP2 Supersport ( very soft though ) - between 3,000 and 3,500 till completely worn! Storm 2 Ultra - 5,000+ before i sold bike, with plenty left good for about 8k i would say at a push On the XJR the storm 2 ultra looked like new after 1500 ish miles -

Been having fun on my new toy, even though the weather is crap and its plastered in salt. Used it a few times in its 'A'dvanced most which basically makes the throttle VERY sharp, and boy does it accelerate bloody quickly! I had a little google search and the 0-60 time on it is 2.7s!! thats a mere 0.2s slower than a busa Also makes it the fastest production Yamaha 0-60mph so far ( no times for the new R1/R1M yet ) The top speed isn't huge at 130ish mph but the acceleration more than makes up for it Had the ECU mapped back end last week which has smoothed the throttle in STD mode ( which was one of the bikes downfalls ) so now the bikes enjoyable in all riding modes. Can't wait to open it up on twisties and have some fun! Roll on summer

I take it the BMW at the start of the vid is his? Well... ovc the clutch will be heavier, its cable not hydraulic for a start. The throttle is twitchy because.. well its a triple with shit loads of power ( emissions, fbw etc etc come into it as well, plus the BMW's are boring to ride ), two things you get used to when owning a cable clutch and a triple though. I still think quick-shifters are a waste of time for road use and frankly should only be fitted to race/track bikes.
