had a set on my old 600 and i thought they were great,excellent wet grip and impressive lean grip -
depends what sort of riding your doing m8 if you do more with the missus on the back id suggest a sports/ tourer i can name a few nice yams for you -

you do get some really nice days in winter Dave i would go stir crazy if i didnt have the xj just gotta get that salt rinsed off m8 -
well the ace is tucked up for winter and as i dont drive the xj900 is all im using for the next few months , it also helps its got shaft drive 18"wheels and new rubber,so who else is gonna be riding through winter?
