  1. Laddo, through reasons based around poverty, is racing this year on scubs (part worn) tyres. Today he went and bought a couple of sets off of one of the riders who runs in the National supersport 600 championship and during the ensuing natter some numbers were bandied about. The supersport teams *tyre* budget for *one* rider for this season's 600 championship is? a) £5,000 b) £10,000 c) £27,000 That'll be twenty seven thousand of your English pounds just on tyres for one rider, for the season, on the 2nd cheapest out of 4 available brands. Feck
  2. Hardest month yet to pick one I reckon - the number and standards are getting better every month. Not a poor photo amongst them, but they all have some little thing or other stopping them being perfect. ( I always choose on the photo, rather than whether I like the bike, IYSWIM) So, the way I see it is this (just thinking out loud) the one thing that detracts from them is: Trebor - The fence in the backround BanditMike - Not quite enough bike in the shot Sweban - Don't think the angle of the bike works Goferit - Weeds or whatever behind the bike ptolemyx - Bit of a bare background for summer Dick65 - Gloves and lid spoil it a bit fr499y - Most 'summery' but *looks* like a bit too much post-processing [1] finger - 3 feet to the right so just the hedge in the background would have been ace haveugot1 - That shiny bit of chrome! Please don't get the hump fellas, this is just my two penneth worth and just the way I look at it - I'm not a pro or an art afficiando (mainly because I think that Tracey Emin's stuff is a pile of . Anyway, this is the chat thread, so owt that sparks a bit of debate is good, yeah? What I would like to round off with is a big 'thank you' to everyone that entered in June - it's clear that you all made a big effort and everyone this month should feel that they have a great chance of winning. [1] Apologies if that's straight out of the camera dude. Will take some pondering this.
  3. Not exactly a slick operation there. Still, makes you want to inflict some deep, meaningful and prolonged pain to them though.
  4. Yup, had it here too - was nuts for about 10 minutes, hail stones about 20mm across!
  5. Well the boss has to have some perks for dealing with the whining oiks on the shop floor
  6. The Mick Boddice race school jacked 2 or 3 years ago now.
  7. Even I'd have a chair. But it would have to be a fully covered one thobut...
  8. Was there over the weekend (for those that don't know, it's a circuit on an old airfield just south of Ashbourne) and took some pics walking around the track - apologies for the fairly poor pics but a) it was raining, b) the light was fading c) it was a cheapo camera. Anyway, in order of the way you do it: 1. Assembly area 2. The starting grid (it's a little side road, not part of the track proper) 3. Past the control tower, everyone gets a bit kamikaze into the chicane 4. Chicane entry. You really don't want to be jostled onto the grass here 5. Chicane exit. 6. Over a small crest and downhill into Park Corner. If you defend over to the right you lose drive up the straight into the Esses, so everything comes past you. Take it wider and be prepared to be stood up mid-corner by a late arrival. 7. Then it's up a short straight into the left-right-left-right Esses. This is the second half of it. 8. Into the left-handed Townley's corner. The faster line is on the right side, but if you get blocked you have very little run off.... 9. The hairpin. More of a 'hammerhead' really 10. After the hairpin there is a left hand 'kink'. Run off here is, errr, none. 11. Onto Pope Straight. Yes it's long. The trees are well protected from any errant riders by a few strategically placed tyres. Yes those are sheep in the infield, protected by a bit of banking and a nice safe wire fence. Oh, and there is a public footpath running across the straight as well. 12. Bottom end of Pope straight. Pit lane entrance on the left. Don't even think about braking before that first corner marker. Brake at the second marker and it's going to hurt... 13. Paddock Corner. Very tricky and lots of different lines used around here. Go in tight and it's easy to run out of track if you gun it before the second apex. Go in wide and expect a lemming or two to come steaming up the inside. And there you have it. Mind you, they only do a handful of track days a year, but in October a lot of road racing lunatics descend on it, because, well, they like it.
  9. This is, as everyone else has said, the correct answer. Glad you're (almost) fairly OK though mate. Bear in mind if the shoe was on the other foot, it's most likely that he would be getting a quote from the dearest bodyshop in town, as well as making calls to an ambulance-chasing company about his whiplash/backache/erectile dysfunction.
  10. *Thinks* Queen IWTBF video, with added cans of beer
  11. If you were on an old Jawa, or had been a few hundred miles I could understand it though
  12. Not for you no, but his point about not needing employer's liability insurance is basically a sack of if any of the points made apply - so to be legit he will have to have it. This leaves the only reason he *doesn't* want to take you on 'on the books' is so he can reduce his costs (you) on a whim. If he is already thinking of an exit strategy, I'd personally not bother if I were you. I know it's what you want to do long term, but it's good to let someone else worry about where your wages are coming from this week! Keep plugging away for a proper placement mate, it'll work out
  13. Well the sorting out of your own tax returns and NI isn't too painful unless you fly over the VAT threshold, and being self employed does carry with it some benefits. Be very aware about his insurance liability position though, because even if you are a self employed subby, the HSE will deem him liable as an employee if: * he has the right to control where and when they work and how you do it; * he supplies your work materials and equipment; * he requires that you only deliver the service and you cannot employ a substitute if you are unable to do the work * you work exclusively for him All relevant blurb will be on the HSE website. Who would pay the fees if you were employed normally - the employer or the government? On the plus you could more than likely offset training costs against any income tax liability if you were self employed. The dropping of subbies, you can't do owt about mate, everyone from Tesco downwards does it.
  14. Easy solution - have them set up a direct debit to you! May sound a bit mad, but I tried it and it helps no end - you're not chasing them all the time, they don't physically hand it over so sulk less and it just becomes another bill to them, rather than something personal I think that the "feel free to off and rent something yourself" coversation is something that almost everybody has - and they either do -and flounce off into a world of early skintness, or do the maths first and stop whinging! £20 a week is an utter bargain though IMO.
  15. Members, that is, until we have 1000 Keep prodding away chaps (and chapesses)
  16. £90 for being in the wrong lane at a roundabout? Just park plod on the northbound approach to Hobby Horse roundabout, should make about half a million per day....
  17. Glad to see that the Senior race eventually got run
  18. Not used BT broadband for years, but they will be better than your current lot
  19. Because you like the way they change colour as soon as it gets damp?
