OK Tubthumper, it seems no one has actually answered your question. You received a NIP in the post, which is exactly what it says-a notice of intended prosecution. What you will be asked to provide at this stage is either an acknowledgement that you were the driver at the time of the alleged offence, or the details of the driver should it not have been you. You will then receive a reply, most likely a Conditional Offer. This allows you to take the option of a fixed penalty and the points. This will almost certainly be £60 and 3 points. Send your licence & cheque, and it's finished with. If, however, you were going substantially over the limit, you will receive a summons to appear in court. Pretty unlikely TBH. Some constabularies offer speed awareness courses which you will pay for but which normally you will avoid the points. Note it doesn't quosh the speeding conviction which you will need to disclose to your insurance company.

As many of you will know, I rode my B12 back from Spain a wee while ago. I was thinking of tidying it up over the winter to sell in the spring, but I thought I'd punt it on here for your interest. Details: 1998 Bandit 1200, Maroon, genuine 12,000 miles. Serviced around 1k miles ago, new plugs, valve clearances, oil & filter. Five degree ignition advancer, 20mm jackup, twin Dommie headlamps. Custom seat, stainless frame inserts, K & N filter, Hagon progressive fork springs. Gold Renthal bars, mini indies. Currently SORNed so no tax & MoT. Still got original seat & bars, owner's manual & Haynes manual. Bad bits: right side fork seal leaking, chain ready for replacement. Needs a clean & polish and there is some pitting on the cases caused by some fungus from a bamboo curtain we left in the lockup near the bike. It may clean off for all I know. I'll post a few pics when I get chance. As for price, looking at what's going on Ebay etc I reckon even as it stands it's got to be around £1500, but I'm prepared to discuss that with genuinely interested parties.

Slave trade? That's quite a leap Gaz. I doubt if the average white van man has an intimate knowledge of the slave trade. Otherwise they might know that the first slavers were themselves black. But I don't see any future in this thread except bile and rancour. And that's all I've got to say 'bout that.

Frankly I think there's been a bit of over reaction here. In the final analysis this is an internet forum, and mods cannot, and should not, exercise complete control. It's like the TV-no likey, look elsewhere. I don't want to see the "no offence at all times" police on this site any more than I do on others which I frequent. And as for the word itself, it's completely a question of perception. This is an Anglo Saxon word which was in common parlance before the Norman invasion. After the Normans took control of England, French became the nation's official language, ie the language of government and the royal court. Anglo Saxon came to be viewed as common and vulgar, the language of a subjugated race. Imagine if we were taken over by for example a muslim race, words we take for granted might easily become verboten; we might finish up being taken to task for espousing the word vagina
