I'm tired, the alarm went off at 7, and I feel like I'm that fish in a blender...I can't stand the tension. Hahaha. But, today I am going to do some shopping and then will get some new balcony lights to hang there. Ours are half on, half off. No fun. I will also cut out the teddy bear pattern for my husband, and sew the lining into my dress. I will have it done for Christmas. Yay!!

Thank you. I will post an update on how he's doing. Mama and I both have faith that he will be alright, but it seems that our family has had a lot of issues involving health this year. My husband's uncle had to have chemo earlier this year for his cancer, and now this. We hope and pray that Papa's is not cancerous, but he's dealing with pain, so that's not good. I'm just glad that my husband's brother is willing to help him get an operation scheduled with a notable surgeon. That's something nice about having a family member who is a doctor.

There's a saying in English, 'Dynamite comes in small packages'. Some of my best friends are shorter than me, and to be honest sometimes I feel like I'm too tall. It's true, I do, I am 173cm tall, and most of my friends are at least 10, if not more, centimeters shorter than me. Then I met this lady in a class who said, 'you are tall, be it, and be proud'. It gave a whole new meaning to me and I started standing up straighter and smiling more. I realized that I am what I am and can't change that. The same holds true for you. You are who you are; and what I see here is a smart and dynamic individual. Your English is excellent and I wouldn't worry about that at all. One of the things I would do is look in a mirror. It sounds stupid, but I read a book somewhere where they said that if one looks in a mirror for two minutes, then by the end of that two minutes, the person would be smiling. I actually tried it, and I was grinning like a cheshire cat by the end of those two minutes. It's just a thought, but I'd give it a try, just to see if it works for you. But, if you are depressed, then do go speak with someone about how you are feeling.

I'm not posting this to get advice, as I know what it is I have to do, but it does put a damper on things in a way. Last night I found out that my Papa (he's my father in law, but he'll always be Papa to me) was diagnosed with a tumor and will have to have surgery on the 14th of this month to have it removed. He and Mama (my mother in law) will leave for Berlin and probably stay there until just before Christmas. We plan to leave around the 20th, but may come up to an empty apartment or leave just prior to the holiday. Not that I mind that, I just want Papa to come through the surgery alright and not have to see another hospital for a long while. He has been through so much this past year, and I hate to see him suffer. So, please give a thought out for him during the coming weeks, it would mean a lot to me. He's such a special person, and when I came into the family some fourteen years ago, he welcomed me with open arms.

I have been here a week, as of today, and I love it. I have been welcomed warmly, and have discovered a real unity among the people here. Jumping into the Wish Upon a Star thread, I discovered a truly lovely place with lots of kind, loving, and generous people. Not, just to me, but to each other. That's the true spirit of Christmas. That is a realness that is evident here in everything people say and do. People are kind, because that is what they are and that makes a huge difference to those of us coming in from different places with different experiences. This forum is amazing!

Last year I had a hard time getting into the spirit, this year is a complete turnaround. The house is already decorated, although we will not be here on Christmas day. My husband and I are driving 600 km to the north of the country to see his parents for the holidays. They live about 20 km from the North Sea coast, and this is one of my favorite areas of Germany. On Christmas Eve, we open presents and have a large meal consisting of turkey, dressing, boiled potatoes, red cabbage, and homemade cakes and pastries. At eleven at night, we go to the church for a service, and then return back home and sleep. We have two Christmas days, on the 25th and the 26th. What we do on those days varies. One year we were snowbound and spent the entire time inside, while on other times, we bundle up and go to Büsum to walk along the seaside.

I think issues with parents are always going to come about, and while they are not easy for kids today to contend with. Most parents who are really strict do love their kids and have their best interests at heart. Your dad sounds like one of those kinds of parents. It doesn't mean he is perfect, but it does mean that he is human. No, I'm not a parent, but I do know how it was growing up, and how I couldn't do the things my friends did because I didn't have the money either. After I grew up, I realized how worrisome the real world could be. The only suggestion that I could offer is to sit down and talk rationally with your dad. Try and see what his points and feelings are and let him know what yours are.

I am a hobby teddy bear maker. I have been sewing teddy bears for close to ten years. In Germany, they sell some of the finest materials for bearmaking, and the hobby is widely appreciated and loved. I also make clothes and love to hang out in fabric stores.. My favorite outfit was a jacket that resembled the red coat that Johnny Depp wore in 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory'. Wasn't fond of the movie, but loved the jacket!!
