Well, after 12 years and not quite 70,000 miles, something broke on my Kawasaki. I'd noticed a little misfire type noise for a week or two, and sure enough an exhaust clamp had rusted through, broken, and left a little blow hole. Was up at Clay Cross Kawasaki today so I pushed the boat out and bought a pair for £3.50 each. I have to say, for a bike that has stood outside quite a bit recently due to our kitchen conversion stuff hogging the garage, and not been ever so well looked after, that's a pretty impressive record. If only it wasn't so big.......

Montjuic has shorter fairing and different side panel decal, timing cover looks different too. 750 SF looks nearer the mark. The one in Tony's pic also has hydraulic front brake so may be a bit off piste, as it were. Anyway, hats off to the the guy who was riding it-in my book a proper classic. PS later ones did have disc brake. Been reading them up a bit, sadass that I am. SFC had a zinc plated frame too.

Been having bother with my VFR alarm again. Replacing the keyfob battery appears to have sorted it, but I'm taking it to Spain in a few months, and I spoke to an alarm fitter today who will come out and remove it for £60. Bit tempting to kiss it off for about the same price as replacing the other (lost) keyfob. Bearing in mind all the grief I got with it last time in Spain when Brittany Ferries broke off my underseat transponder, a simple life looks the best. Any opinions?

If you look at the video the car he undertook was passing a line of slower vehicles and was doing 68mph just in front of a police vehicle, on a SPECS observed stretch of dual carriageway. No one hates a lane hog any more than me, but in this instance I thibk the biker got a bit trigger happy. Could easily be me one of these days mind.........

£20 for embroidery origination is OK-cheap side of average. Once done that charge is over with, and you can request a copy of the original file. Worth doing so if you have a fallout with your embroiderer, or they go tits up, you don't have to do it all again. Ask for it to be emailed as a .dst file. Plus I can do some for you if necessary.

Stay west as much as poss Dave. Eastern side down from Aberdeen is a bit crap TBH, and A9 to Inverness is now SPECS all the way from Dunblane so might be a case for A82 past Loch Lomond. You can go towards Skye or Applecross from there or continue up to Inverness, which is a nice little city BTW. Deffo do Skye, see the Quiraing and take the road across from Staffin, looks interesting. Applecross is on my to do list, not least because you can get there via the Bealach na Ba (google image it ) Not been further up than Inverness other than Ullapool, which is nothing special in my book. And remember the Scots can't build roads-the best ones were built by the British army 200 years ago. It's not uncommon to ride roads with no white line in the middle, so be pessimistic about your daily mileage, it's hard to do. To go up I'd be tempted to go A1 then cut onto the A66, detour to Middleton and on towards Alston. Plot up somewhere south of Glasgow first night. Quite nice in that Peebles/Hawick/Lanark triangle.
