Nice place, Chester. You need to stick north really then. Could go round the coast A55 then back into Snowdonia along the Llanberis Pass-a must for me. Really nice all round there. Anywhere around Betws, Beddgelert but if it's a weekend expect some company, not least from North Wales Police. You could go up Snowdon on the rack & pinion railway, down the slate mines at Blaenau, A470 south to Dolgellau then cut across towards home via Welshpool. I've been talking about exactly this with the wife, a weekend of biking roads round Wales. Difference is, you're doing it. Have a blast mate.

Where were you planning staying Dave? Horseshoe is a bit out of the way for a lot of the best bits of Wales. TBH I would go elsewhere, Horseshoe is overrated and the cafe puts soap in the sausage Further south plenty of roads to choose from. Always fancied the B4518 Llanidloes to Machynlleth for one.

Went on me tod, which was nice really. Early start, all clear roads, was in the Roaches Tearooms before 9:30, and my bacon egg & buttie was quite nice. Not cheap at £6.60 including a cappuccino mind you The Roaches (take their name from a mispronunciation of the French Roches, BTW) from the A53 going towards Buxton. The big bit on the right is Hen Cloud. The cafe is just left of the bottom of that in the centre of the pic. View from my breakfast table Nice quick ride back, in time to see the camera van setting up near Matlock, and watch all the numpties who can't get up struggling in the traffic.

Forecast for tomorrow looks good, so I think I'll chance my Speedy into darkest Derbyshire. Well, via Staffordshire that is. I'm thinking of brekkie either at Windy Ridge Cafe or the Roaches Tea Rooms. Then maybe on to a few back roads before home. Won't be out tooo long but I need to escape my sis in law and cousin for a bit. If anyone's interested in either a meet up or ride, I'll be at J27 of the M1 at around 8:45, hit the cafe no later than 10.

15000 mile service

Well, according to the V Strom owners forum it will be due a valve check. They don't seem unduly shim hungry but it is most common on the first check to have to adjust them, which involves cam removal. So it would be a biggie, pure and simple. On most bikes like this ( my Speed Triple and VFR among them) service ranges from probably around £250 privateer to as much as £500 from a stealership. PS check your service history of course. PPS any mechanic who hasn't told you this may be best avoided. -

Had a couple of pairs of the old Road Attacks. I quite liked them but TBH the Maxxis are just as good for far less dosh. Forum is pretty quiet. I've got nothing to say unless you want a gazeteer of factories I visit every day of my life been in Preston all day today, might be putting my Speedy in the classifieds though.

OIn the way home today I saw the Vulcan bomber. Apparently it had two Lancs with it which sadly I missed. however, for those of you like me who take an interest in these things, check out this link. If I remember I can see them next Sunday at Gedling. TBH I'd probably see them from home. http://www.warplane.com/lancaster-2014-uk-tour.aspx
