  1. definitely a dying breed - I'm one of em too!, my garage/workshop looks like it belongs in the 50's , he comes across as an interesting character, would love to have a proper natter with him
  2. I disagree my good fellow! I am the proud (and possibly sad) owner of a mint condition 1996!! pug 306, not a spot of rust anywhere, starts and runs/drives like a dream and no play in any of the bearings/joints. They just don't make em like they used to!
  3. Some people obviously either have far too much spare time on their hands, or their bosses would be very interested in what they're really doing on their computers during work time
  4. we've always named our cars/bikes!, my wife's car is called Foxy because when we were going to buy it she thought the number plate ended fxy hence foxy! turns out it ended fyx but foxy stuck. my car is called Mildred because it was owned by a lovely old lady from new - until I bought it of course! , and my ZZR is called Magic because it's metallic black and it's f***ing magic - geddit?
  5. For those of you who are humming and harring - I've had BT020's , Pilot road 2's , and metzeler MT 01's before I was seduced by the dark side - I mean maxxis and from now on it's maxxis all the way
  6. Wouldn't it be deliciously ironic if the perps were involved in an accident and could only be saved if gotten to hospital within 10 minutes and the ambulanceman said "the only way to get you there in time is by helicopter, but the air ambulance is grounded due to someone stealing their funds so I'm afraid you're going to die"
  7. Doubt they will!, been talking to some of the bods on a local forum who used to work for them and they said they've been in financial difficulties for a while so speculation is rife that it was an insurance job!!
  8. Definitely have a soft spot for the 90's when bikes really came of age , currently in love with my wife/ZZR1100 - not saying who I love more though also loved my fz750 although technically that one was late 80's. would like to get an early ZX6R as a second bike for scratching, and might consider selling my soul to the devil for a first edition R1
  9. I have resolved that issue by removing lawn and replacing with gravel!! - largely due to the fact that I have two lady type doggies who's wee kept killing the lawn! - hark? do I hear the sound of lawnmowers starting up?, must be time to go for a ride!
  10. couldn't go out yesterday, but went out today - having totally rebuilt the back end of my bike - cleaned and resprayed the swingarm, hugger and all linkages etc , cleaned up and treated the shock and resprayed the spring, cleaned off all the gunk from chainlube, de-greased the chain and gave it an oil bath, sorted the cush-drive rubbers etc etc. It was good to be back on the road
  11. I must say, I swear by Maxxis tyres now! just ordered a new sport rear for my ZZR11 too - then decided the swingarm and rear linkages could do with a clean up and lick of fresh paint, so a tyre change has turned into complete rear end rebuild!!!
  12. What about an Aprilia RSV?? they have a rep for being bullet-proof and sound gorgeous!! - go quite well too - I would love to get one someday
  13. Having been to yankee land myself on occasion, I can attest to the rigid enforcement of rules by the authorities - often at the expense of practicality and common sense!! I certainly wouldn't want to live in "the land of the free" - they're anything but!!
  14. I use glasses wipes, I get them from wilko's or aldi and just keep a slack handful in my jacket pocket or under the seat, they work well enough for me - I know it means stopping every so often to clean up, but over the years I've found this to be the most practical solution - tear-offs tend to become an expensive solution as you rip one off, and within seconds a bumble bee commits hara-kiri on the clean one - and you can't just dump tear-offs when you remove them like they do on the race track - if there's a policeman watching you'll find yourself being done for littering as happened to someone I knew - and I don't agree with it myself either, there's enough sh*t dumped on our roads by others as it is!!
  15. Highly amusing , I suspect he likes monty python, spike milligan and the goon show - much like my sense of humour and it's actually quite a collectable bike nowadays!!!
  16. I tried a set of Maxxis supermax sports tyres on my zzr11 and I'll swear by em from now on the grip is superb and I know some people use them regularly for trackdays, got mine from an on-line supplier - DK motorcycles who are reasonably priced and deliver within 2 days (more often the very next day!) - the rear has lasted 3500 miles and is just due for replacement, the front isn't even half-worn yet. They also do a supermax touring tyre which is a little cheaper than the sports version and a friend of mine has them on his rf900 - the touring rears are reputed to last up to 7000+ miles and he says the grip levels are excellent (knee down excellent apparently!) I think they're definitely worth a look
  17. re: the poll, it would depend on the usage - I have a friend with a gsx1400 and it's a lovely bike - very good for two up riding, but I've always had a soft spot for big capacity sports twins so my personal vote went for the sv1000
  18. Basically it boils down to this - in the past, Libya has had covert terrorist training camps and Gaddafi was a thorn in the U.S's side, now that there is civil unrest and political change building all over the middle east it's a golden opportunity for the americans to get rid of said thorn under the guise of "protecting innocent civilians", and english military personnel are involved to keep us sweet with the yanks (hope this doesn't breach the politics protocol dave )
