hi all. I bought a bike in durham just under a year ago. It had irish plates (southern ireland). Do I need to apply for UK plates or am I fine using the said plates? /

This will be my second helmet purchase. The first was a rushed affair meaning I now have a noisy rubbish helmet. I popped into a shop today (race leathers in darwen) and realised (as has been said before) internet is not the way shop for a helmet. There's no substitute to trying the stuff first. Here is my dilema. If I opt for a higher budget lid ( £350-450), and went for a modular type, do the horror stories of chin bar failure on impact still apply? Secondly, it was implied that higher budget lid last longer ( 5-7 years) compared to sub £250 lids. If I spend more money, is it generally feasible to keep a lid that long ( 5 years) without wanting to change it or the innards going baggy because of washing them?

Just landed a new job which requires me to commute 60 mile round trip (on bike) most of which is on the motorway. Many of you will have will have, on your years of experience, seen these but here are my immediate observations. A new found respect to wagon drivers for the crap they have to put up with especially on slip roads. A fair few indicate then change lanes with no regard to your approach speed. Constantly looking for the dry patch especially on fast bends. Do not fear the wind but attack it to your advantage and shift my weight around the bike to suit. Thanks dave for suggesting a really good pair of gloves (enforcers). Watching weather on telly abit more closely ( ITV weather woman makes it rather pleasurable). Spent an intimate 2 hours on the bike getting all muck off. Already made a few mates at work who also ride and there is no shortage of advice on those 6 exit roundabouts. Idiots in nissan 360zs that bait you into a speed way. I know the weather is gonna get worse but i will keep riding.

I used the phrase 'despite the fact' in recognition that it will have held him back in other jobs as already some people at work are making jokes now. Knowing them it will only get worse . I fully take your point. It may have come across as if he ought not to excell due his disability but I mean't to realise that he will have overcome some obstacles due to his disability.

A few months ago a young lad of 18 started work at my place. He is polite, hardworking and a fast learner. Two weeks ago a guy in his early thirties started work. Despite the fact that he has a serious speech impediment ( stammer) he works hard, has a modicum of logic around his approach which I attribute mostly to age on his side. My boss approached me today and asked me who he should keep between the two. I think he is leaning towards (keeping) the older guy. But here is the dilema, my boss doesn't know I am going for a final interview with another firm tomorrow after successfully passing two rounds and he may be receiving a notice on monday. Further more there is a third individual at work who is positively militant, a waste of time and drains morale to those around him. I have been on the receiving end of his gossip though it doesn't bother me. For those of you who have kids or are kids (chad), you know what a horrendous work climate this is for young ones. Should I stick the boot in to this third individual though due to labour laws he's been in employ for years and nothing would happen to him or just keep quiet as i would not want to spoil it for the first two guys.?

ahhh. That sounds like a an idea I will look at getting a pair. I was actually fantasizing about a little clip on wiper system like you get on the headlamps of posh cars but...I'll stick to gloves. Thanks for the idea though.

I was asking about what to do when it is lashing it or even steady drizzle and your visor is useless and you have to open it then all the water starts getting on your specs. Be very interesting if I had used washing up liquid when the water strikes.

i have had fairings on and off a few times and its wire runs alongside one of them. I will will have a look at the routing again since it will be raining till sunday

Hi all.I have recently replaced my battery and while I was at it did cleaned the terminals. Since then I have noticed my after market gear position indicator dims but never goes out all together. My headlamps are fine. Any ideas as to why this would be happening. I am terrified of everything going dark on my way home from work as I use dark roads. .
