  1. You've seen my brekkie elsewhere today, but I'm attaching a (slightly blurred) pic of the Windy Ridge menu for your delectation. They do a Gutbuster breakfast for those of you with a penchant for that sort of thing. Not only is it a top cafe but there are various excellent ways of getting there. I propose a ride there on my next available weekend date, long way round of course, so give me your views guys. I'll do the route, all you need is a full tank & empty belly.
  2. OK, I'm back. That was a good day's riding and no mistake. Decent bunch of guys-it's always a bit weird to basically pitch up & ride off with a load of strangers. Anyway, I'd forgotten how great the Cheshire side is, we really must get out that way. Basically from Yondermann to Owler Bar near Sheffield, then back roads through Bakewell, Hartington, lunch stop at the Windy Ridge near Leek. I had a nice bacon egg & mushroom baguette which cost £5.20 with coffee. On through Leek & Wildboarclough, pint of orange at Cat & Fiddle, where I said my farewells as I wanted to be home at a decent time. Done about 140 miles of largely blinding roads and did pretty well with traffic too considering. Had the bike airborne on the A54 but what the hell. Didn't really stop so no pretty pics except for one near my favourite hill. Well I did say didn't I? On the way home near Monyash
  3. Yep, in my original post I pointed out this is not an exclusive poll. It's only to gauge opinion but by all means if anyone wants to suggest another location, fire away.
  4. Not me mate, I'm driving a van to darkest Scotland next week. TBH it's a bit of a crap ride from mine anyway, but I go once or twice a year if poss to be sociable.
  5. I just wish Chad would stop typing with his gloves on
  6. Nice one mate, you should have let me know. I'll try there sometime right enough.
  7. There was a bit of a commotion on the street last night, lots of blue lights & people milling around. We thought a party had got out of hand or somesuch. Police have had a house taped off with a plod outside since. It seems a young lad's come in to find his mum stabbed, allegedly by his father. Anyway, she was pronounced dead at the hospital, so there's a 52 yr old under arrest and a lot of wild speculation and gossip on the street.
  8. Holy crap! his bike was 40 years from him! Not only did he crash he passed through a space/time continuum predictive text just sucks. All's well that ends well dude-you got home in one piece.
  9. Doing a 130 mile figure of eight round the Peak District with the VFR owners forum that I'm on. They seem to take it a bit seriously do some like with satnavs etc, a lot of IAM/ROSPA types who actually now ride GS's but I think they're basically sound. Mind you I'll be on the Speedy If you're in Derbyshire keep an eye out for us-I think about 20 bikes. I'll hopefully be having a butty at Windy Ridge Cafe near Leek, so I'll pop a review on for you
  10. Hi vis law has been repealed and the breathalyser thing is not being applied. Some legal B/S means it can't be repealed but it basically has been left to lie on the statute book but is not enforced. Plus you'd only be in France for around an hour
  11. And I've already cast the wrong vote. TBH not bothered either way so no worries.
  12. OK well as seen on other threads there's a bit of discussion about next year's rideout. I've suggested an overseas trip and will name the Ardennes Forest in Belgium/Luxembourg/Germany so we have something definite in mind. There also seems to be some support for the New Forest so I've chucked the two of them into a poll. This is not to say that any other options cannot be considered. I'd be quite happy to help organise a trip abroad and am not fussed over camping/hotel. I'll rough it for a few nights. Vote away gang.
  13. Anyone fancy a long weekend on the Continent? Trip to the Ardennes, see the war sites from the Battle of the Bulge, some nice forest roads, you can do four countries in an hour if you want to.
  14. Like it but I still think the VFR one is the best-but I would
  15. Far too much trouble keeping score TBH. I can tell that I did 12,000 miles in 12 weeks in my company car though. It generally needs annual service every three months or so
  16. Looks like a bit of a bitsa that one-the seat looks like an old Jap one, and the front end seems to be wearing a disc brake, again strikes me as Jap.
  17. Here and there but it's a minefield, particularly if you try & use a satnav a lot of the minor turns are now blocked off.
  18. Right, well, today didn't quite go to plan. I was a bit late starting out, and the traffic was hanging, due in no small part to the hordes of MAMILs out riding three abreast and, in my view, deliberately holding up traffic. Throw in an unexpected police "escort" into Cromford, buses even on B roads, and it was second gear tedium a lot of the way. So I arrived at the Village Green cafe dead on 12 o clock to be told they'd just stopped doing breakfasts Back on the bike to nip round to the Grindleford Station Cafe "we don't do mushrooms so don't ask" ordered a bacon egg & mushroom butty got bacon & egg at least. Possibly the smallest fried egg I've seen that wasn't actually a pimple, but it was decent enough tasting, and not too greasy. Interesting place and plenty of bikes there, so I'd say worth doing at least once to say you've done it, no more than. I'd score it 6/10. Coffee & butty came to £4.45. From there had a very slow ride over Snake Pass back through Glossop & Chapel, back road through Edale and finished up visiting family in Sheffield.
  19. In the old days we always waved, it's just that nowadays we're going so fast the wind blast spazzes your arm so we nod-to the point where in the Peak District of a weekend you need a chiropractor when you get home.
  20. Been out this afto & got the Mrs a bike jacket and leather trousers, just mail ordered a pair of boots. Might just get away this week on the ZZR, was thinking of Wales, maybe the Brecons.
  21. Just got the MoT done on my ZZR, Speedy on charge, forecast for tomorrow looks decent, so I'm going to continue my unofficial Egon Ronay tour of the Peak District sampling breakfast butties. I'm going to try the Village Green at Eyam. Anyone interested in a steady, largely B road, bimble let me know. I''ll be rolling at about 9 in the morning.
  22. Don't make a habit of leaving the keys in the door though mate
  23. Probably more worried about his team mate running into him ! A fair point well made!!
  24. I'm actually a bit of a fan of wee Georgie. Very calm, composed and diplomatic rider who has brought a different style of riding to MotoGP. Has made a decent fist of it with an inferior bike but I suspect nil points this weekend will leave too much to do unless Pedrosa has an off or two or maybe a couple of DNF's. None of which seem too likely.
