what are familiar spirits and generational curses?

Also, I'm not so sure I agree that a truly born-again, Bible believing Christian who places his faith and trust in Christ alone, can be demon possessed. We can be oppressed by satan but that's something entirely different. Jesus does indeed protect our souls if we are born again from the enemy who seeks to steal and destroy it. I 150% agree with your statement above. However, I don't think that randomhit10 was referring to the general case; I think she was referring to people who intentionally/willfully cross the line to explore and/or participate in the spiritual world knowing that this is disobedience - e.g., witchcraft, attempting to contact the dead, psychics, etc. What happens to them? -
and Psalm 118:8 It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man. 2 Timothy 2:14-26 14 Remind them of these things, charging them before the Lord not to strive about words to no profit, to the ruin of the hearers. 15 Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. 16 But shun profane and idle babblings, for they will increase to more ungodliness. 17 And their message will spread like cancer. Hymenaeus and Philetus are of this sort, 18 who have strayed concerning the truth, saying that the resurrection is already past; and they overthrow the faith of some. 19 Nevertheless the solid foundation of God stands, having this seal: “The Lord knows those who are His,” and, “Let everyone who names the name of Christ[c] depart from iniquity.” 20 But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay, some for honor and some for dishonor. 21 Therefore if anyone cleanses himself from the latter, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified and useful for the Master, prepared for every good work. 22 Flee also youthful lusts; but pursue righteousness, faith, love, peace with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart. 23 But avoid foolish and ignorant disputes, knowing that they generate strife. 24 And a servant of the Lord must not quarrel but be gentle to all, able to teach, patient, 25 in humility correcting those who are in opposition, if God perhaps will grant them repentance, so that they may know the truth, 26 and that they may come to their senses and escape the snare of the devil, having been taken captive by him to do his will. 2 Peter 2 also speaks strongly regarding these false prophets. The thing that is comforting is that God knows that this is taking place in the Church and a cleansing will take place. When I say this, I'm not commenting on any particular pastor or church, this word is for the Church as a whole: 2 Peter 2 (New King James Version) 2 Peter 2 Destructive Doctrines 1 But there were also false prophets among the people, even as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Lord who bought them, and bring on themselves swift destruction. 2 And many will follow their destructive ways, because of whom the way of truth will be blasphemed. 3 By covetousness they will exploit you with deceptive words; for a long time their judgment has not been idle, and their destruction does[a] not slumber. Doom of False Teachers 4 For if God did not spare the angels who sinned, but cast them down to hell and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved for judgment; 5 and did not spare the ancient world, but saved Noah, one of eight people, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood on the world of the ungodly; 6 and turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah into ashes, condemned them to destruction, making them an example to those who afterward would live ungodly; 7 and delivered righteous Lot, who was oppressed by the filthy conduct of the wicked 8 (for that righteous man, dwelling among them, tormented his righteous soul from day to day by seeing and hearing their lawless deeds)— 9 then the Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of temptations and to reserve the unjust under punishment for the day of judgment, 10 and especially those who walk according to the flesh in the lust of uncleanness and despise authority. They are presumptuous, self-willed. They are not afraid to speak evil of dignitaries, 11 whereas angels, who are greater in power and might, do not bring a reviling accusation against them before the Lord. Depravity of False Teachers 12 But these, like natural brute beasts made to be caught and destroyed, speak evil of the things they do not understand, and will utterly perish in their own corruption, 13 and will receive the wages of unrighteousness, as those who count it pleasure to carouse in the daytime. They are spots and blemishes, carousing in their own deceptions while they feast with you, 14 having eyes full of adultery and that cannot cease from sin, enticing unstable souls. They have a heart trained in covetous practices, and are accursed children. 15 They have forsaken the right way and gone astray, following the way of Balaam the son of Beor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness; 16 but he was rebuked for his iniquity: a dumb donkey speaking with a man’s voice restrained the madness of the prophet. 17 These are wells without water, clouds[b] carried by a tempest, for whom is reserved the blackness of darkness forever.[c] Deceptions of False Teachers 18 For when they speak great swelling words of emptiness, they allure through the lusts of the flesh, through lewdness, the ones who have actually escaped[d] from those who live in error. 19 While they promise them liberty, they themselves are slaves of corruption; for by whom a person is overcome, by him also he is brought into bondage. 20 For if, after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and overcome, the latter end is worse for them than the beginning. 21 For it would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than having known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered to them. 22 But it has happened to them according to the true proverb: “A dog returns to his own vomit,”[e] and, “a sow, having washed, to her wallowing in the mire.” 1 John 2:24-29 Let Truth Abide in You 24 Therefore let that abide in you which you heard from the beginning. If what you heard from the beginning abides in you, you also will abide in the Son and in the Father. 25 And this is the promise that He has promised us—eternal life. 26 These things I have written to you concerning those who try to deceive you. 27 But the anointing which you have received from Him abides in you, and you do not need that anyone teach you; but as the same anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true, and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you will[e] abide in Him. The Children of God 28 And now, little children, abide in Him, that when[f] He appears, we may have confidence and not be ashamed before Him at His coming. 29 If you know that He is righteous, you know that everyone who practices righteousness is born of Him.

Amen, good advice Cholette! I was going to say the same thing - be patient. Certainly seek the Lord, but as my signature below states, sometimes the understanding will come later rather than sooner, but don't worry because it will come. I'm still receiving revelation regarding dreams that I had two years ago. Know that the Lord has everything set for it's appointed time, it may take a day for you to receive the revelation, it may take a year...the key though is that you'll receive the understanding when you need to receive it, not necessarily when you want to receive it. I don't know if you record your dreams (via a voice recording, a dream journal, blog, etc.), but I can't recommend strongly enough that you (and everyone) date and record your dreams. As you go back and review them, you'll see several things - how God speaks to you in dreams (i.e., how symbols are used...you develop your own personal dream symbol vocabulary), you see how/when God was speaking to you prophetically through your dreams, you discover when you were receiving instruction/encouragement/correction/etc. as you compare what was going on in your dreams to what was/is going on in real life, you receive additional revelations as you review your dreams, etc.

Whatever Cholette said, I agree! On a serious note, don't fall for it, this is the famous "rubber cement" strategy - no matter how hard you try to get rid of them, they still manage to stick to you! When it comes to dealing with your ex, you have to begin to think with your head and not your heart, it will deceive you. He was no good to you and is no good for you - end of story. The ties have to be severed completely - you have nothing together that should legitimately require you to communicate with him (e.g., a child or a business) so send him off and may the good Lord bless him and keep him (away from you)....staying in contact with him allows him to continue to play mind games albeit from a distance (just like he did in the text message - this is not going to change especially if he sees that you react to his contact - the feeling you got of being a "sidedish", the Holy Ghost is showing you that, believe Him!). The Lord has so much more in store for you, you're entering a new season filled with many opportunities to grow in the Lord, bless others, and be blessed - leave this manchild in the old season, don't allow him to tarnish your new season. Remember Lot's wife.... I will PM you later (or you can copy/past Cholette's PM into a new one, sign my name to it and send it to yourself... )... Blessings my sister, I know it can be hard but you have to approach this situation with a very sober mind - you are worth it!

Today's Devotional from "Jesus is the Only Way & the Only Truth" (Facebook Group) - I really found this encouraging so thought I would share it with the group...enjoy, be encouraged, and God bless you!! Michael Jordan was cut from his High school basketball team. Michael Jordan once observed, "I've failed over and over again in my life. That is why I succeed." Walt Disney was fired by a newspaper editor because "he lacked imagination and had no good ideas." Thomas Edison's teachers said he was "too stupid to learn anything." He invented Electricity Beethoven handled the violin awkwardly and preferred playing his own compositions instead of improving his technique. His teacher called him "hopeless as a composer." And, of course, you know that he wrote five of his greatest symphonies. Friend's don’t let anyone ever tell you that you don’t have what it takes that you can't do what God has put in your heart. God has entrusted you with His life. He has breathed His very breath into you. He has put Gifts and talents on the inside of you. You have seeds of greatness placed in you. You’re a person of destiny, and you have an assignment and a purpose to fulfill. Shake off any, discouragement, any disappointments of the past and run your race with purpose. You can do all things through Christ. Don’t ever give up on what God has put in your heart and if you do fail don’t just stay there get up and try again. Jesus will Help you overcome anything and everything. Just take a step of faith and Know that your heavenly father will always be with you cheering you on. He has a great plan for your life. Jesus can open up doors that no one else can. Just believe and put all your trust in Jesus. He is such an awesome God and nothing is too hard for him God Bless you.

This has happened to me before a few years ago... I was in my kitchen doorway and saw a man in a grey sweatsuit with the hood over his head go up the stairwell to go upstairs...it felt he came in through the front door. I thought it was my friend so I called out to him to ask him why he didn't come into the kitchen where we all were....but there was no answer. Then I thought it was a thief (it was but not in the natural realm) so I got all vigilante and grabbed a baseball bat and went upstairs and checked out every room...but found no one. I called my friend who told me to consecrate some oil and anoint all the rooms and pray Psalm 91 and 121 through the house. I actually had to keep doing this for a while because shortly thereafter my younger son started hating sleeping in his bedroom at night and my mother could've sworn that she'd heard him talking to someone one afternoon. Another time he was talking to her and referred to "the man" as though he was a playmate...she asked him "what man???"...he said "you know" and left it at that...it took a period of consistent prayer and anointing to get him out but we did...not sure what his assignment ultimately was but it involved befriending my younger son who at that time was 3yrs old.... ...haven't had any problems since then...

I agree! One thing I would like to add here is that we need to be healed before we can be healed. So many of us (and I include myself here) struggle at one point or another in our relationship with the Lord in remembering that: - He is good - He loves us - Our sins were forgiven at the Cross so that we can have eternal life and so that we can have a relationship with Him, He wants to have a relationship with us - We can trust Him - His ways are not our ways (heaps of praises to Him for this! ) - His mercy endures forever - He is always with us and will NEVER forsake us These are straightforward principles that we all know and believe and read in the Word and sing during praise and worship (in other words we go through the motions) but until we really let them sink in and saturate our spirits (again and again) we will always miss just how big the God we serve truly is AND that He promises are for each one of us. The technical side of me likens this dynamic to the Excel software program - even when we think we know so much about it, we still only know a tip of the iceberg in relation to it's many attributes and capabilities. To me, this is the same way Christians seem to be experiencing God these days. We underestimate His Goodness, how much He loves and cares for us individually, how much He wants to bless us, etc. We just can't fully grasp it and we often end up trying to understand Him with our limited understanding. So often our limited understanding is tainted with (if not fully immersed in) some level of hurt if not head on dysfunction; it is challenging to consistently have unwavering faith. Some Christians are able to heal and achieve that depth of faith from day one in their life as a saved person, others grow into this faith through their increased understanding and through learnings from trials, and still others end up in a lifelong struggle to achieve this faith. One thing that often holds us back is trying to understand Him and/or measure Him using worldly standards. Another thing that hinders our ability to understand Him is our own familial/social/work/romantic/spiritual relationship history. When we're accustomed to being treated poorly, being given empty promises time and again and/or outright lies on one end to even being verbally/physically/spiritually abused on the other end, it takes a while to fully heal from all of so that one can truly trust in Him (again knowing that His ways are not our ways so He won't let us down the way that others have) and truly have faith enough to stand on His promises and have a faith that is strong enough to receive our healing. We need to let Him to heal us of these hurts before we can achieve that level of unwavering faith that enable us to receive the healing that being discussed in this thread. Just my

I stand in agreement with Connie's prayer and pray that our Lord Jesus Christ Himself, and our God and Father, who has loved us and given us everlasting consolation and good hope by grace will comfort EmilyM's heart and establish her in every good word and work in the name of Jesus. I pray that EmilyM be reminded through this journey that she can do all things through Christ who strengthens her. I pray her testimony encourages others who are experiencing a similar trial so that You may be glorified. In Jesus' name, Amen.

? how do you handle a bad dream?
lola21st replied to newleaf's topic in Member Bible Study & Teachings
Hi Justblueskies - Sorry, I just saw this post. The reason God gives us these dreams is so that we can pray against the dream content (or whatever we know it symbolizes, i.e., the interpretation), or take action - that might mean within us (changing a behavior/attitude/etc.) or it might be something that we're supposed to do for another person (again, pray for or talk with them, etc.). In some cases, God is giving you a warning that something is going to occur and He's allowing it to occur but even in these instances, He's with us as our Refuge and as our Comforter, to strengthen us as we move through the trial that he showed us. Keep praying about it until He gives you peace about the situation. -

Wow, that's powerful, jjp708! Praise God! I may be wrong but the first thing that came to me was that you were seeing a new you. While the house could represent a real house, houses often represent our spiritual beings, our lives. I often dream of being in a new house and the house is also large, airy, bright with lots of windows and strong. I always sense the sturdiness of the new construction - solid walls, flooring, etc. (often an Italian colonial or Mediterrean style...lol!) which I interpret to mean the strength of the new spiritual foundation that the Lord is establishing within me. The landscaping may represent the result of the seeds of faith planted in you - very fruitful, lush, healthy, strong.
